“To open blind eyes, To bring out prisoners from the prison, Those who sit in darkness from the prison house” (Isaiah 42: 7).
Calvary Chapel Ocean Gateway has a ministry to Eastern Correctional Institution (ECI), a medium security state prison for men located in Westover, Maryland. Pastor Don Mitchell began a Calvary Fellowship three years ago and continues to teach through the Bible at ECI on Tuesday nights.
There are some 3400 men at this facility, all in need of Christ. These are the husbands, brothers, fathers, uncles, and sons of Maryland families. Some will be imprisoned for life.
The greatest concerns for the men about to be released are employment and affordable housing. At present, however, there is no Christian aftercare program on the Eastern Shore to address these concerns.
We have initiated a writing campaign, requesting that the following organizations consider establishing such a program.
